Jen Starr

The Scrapbook Factory is proud to welcome Jen Starr to our store.  She will be teaching 3 classes on Thursday, July 25th.  Here is a little about Jen:

Jen Starr is a fully Certified and Ranger Recognized Instructor. She was the 2007-2008 Design Team Coordinator for Ranger Industries and continues to teach and do private design work for them. She enjoys being a Golden Ambassador for Tattered Angels and has recently designed the color palette for the 2012 Spring and Summer Limited Edition Glimmer Mist. As a Mixed Media Artist with a fine art background there are many companies and products that inspire Jen and she is an endorsed educator and works closely with many of them such as Ten Second Studio, Canvas Corp, 7Gypsies, Stampers Anonymous, Faber Castell, Basic Grey and Prima, just to name a few.. Jen has designed several signature product lines and her projects have been featured in many publications in the US and Europe including the “Ink Essentials” book.

Jen has been scrapbooking, card making and making colorful yet vintage inspired mixed media art since she married her wonderful husband, Mike, in 1997. They lives in Northern New Jersey and have 2 children (10 year old Ryan and 8 year old Maya) who are the subject of much of her work.

Empowering students with product knowledge and creative techniques is what Jen strives for in each of her classes! She has taught technique based classes at stores, crops, large events and conventions all over the US and regularly in Europe and Canada. She has also been a feature instructor on several crafting cruises and taught at events such as CHA, CKU, CKC, Memories Expos, Scrapbook Expo, Bonanza in England, several times at Scrap-A-Ganza in the Netherlands and at ScrapEvent in Sweden. Jen also regularly demos inking and stamping techniques at trade shows such as CHA, SMAC in Paris, Krea Vak in Holland and various Distributor events around the world.

Jen absolutely loves to teach her students to use their creativity and help them think outside the box. It makes her so happy to be able to share her skills, knowledge and love of the art of scrapbooking and stamping with so many others.

INK BOOTCAMP
$55 (4 hour workshop)
9am Wed. July 25th

This workshop will give you a basic training on a variety of different types of inks and embossing powders. You'll learn what they are, what they do, what surfaces they work best on and how to choose the right ink for your projects.

Working mainly with Ranger product lines you'll explore the differences between inks such as dye, pigment, alcohol, archival, Distress, Colorwash, and more. We will make a technique reference book with 6x6" mini-layouts/card fronts with instructions for each page and type of inks used. This class will give you the knowledge to use inks properly and to their full potential!  Please wear OLD clothes as we will be incorporating bleach in some of the techniques.

**Bring to class: heat gun if you have one, variety of adhesives, acrylic block, scissors, pencil and paint brush.
DISTRESSED DENIM MINI-BOOK
$40 (3 hour class)
1:30pm July 25th

This comfortably distressed 6x9" mini-book will be created with a mix of fun materials and media including denim, corrugated cardboard, chipboard, kraft paper, Basic Grey new "Out of Print" line, burlap, Crafter's Workshop Templates, embellishments made from Tim Holtz dies and texture fades, a little paint and more...

During the creative process, we will concentrate on techniques using Tim's new DISTRESS STAINS, creating some interactive elements plus some fun and unique stamping techniques...Oh, and just wait until you see how we are going to distress the denim!!

By the end of class you will have a great chunky book brimming with techniques!

**NOTE** PLEASE wear OLD clothes as we will be incorporating bleach in to some of the techniques!!

Please bring to class: a variety of adhesives (Fabri-tac or Beacon's 3 in 1 works great for denim and burlap is you have it), Heat gun if you have one, paper trimmer, scissors and something to punch holes such as a Big Bite or crop-a-dile.

TEXTURIZED CARDS
$35 (3 hours)
5pm July 25th

Cards are not only fun to create but a great way to learn a variety of techniques on small and individual works of art! You will make 4 different 6x6" cards in this class focusing on elements that will add texture and interest....and of course we will be altering these items with lots of Ranger inks, stamps, embossing powders and more!

**Please note: if you are strictly a scrapbooker and don't make cards, the techniques and designs you make in class could also be incorporated in to a mini-book. I promise I won't be insulted : )

A Crop to Die For this Sat. May 22nd

Scrapbook Factory will present "A Crop to Die For," a special dinner mystery play and scrapbooking event on Sat. May 22nd at 6pm. Tickets for the event are $10 ($5 will be dontated to a local pet resuce center) and can be purchased at the Scrapbook Factory through Friday.
The play stars "Kiki Lowenstein," the scrapbooking protagonist of Paper, Scissors, Death, which was nominated for the prestigious Agatha Award. Attendees will be invited to participant in solving the crime. Prizes will be given for those fingering the correct suspect, and a special prize will go to one lucky sleuth.
Ticket prices includes pizza dinner @ 6:15 as well as dessert, drinks, prizes, discounts and demos.
The play was written by award-winning author Joanna Campbell Slan, who says, "I was a bit stunned to realize that Kiki is more of a phenomenon than a character in a book! She certainly has her own fans. And they sure are ardent. I've had to make pledges to people about Kiki's love life and the safety of her rescue pup, Gracie. I mean...these women are SERIOUS about Kiki and her world."
The action starts when Kiki Lowenstein brings a group of women as her guests to this crop. Little did Kiki know, long-time conflicts have been simmering in this group-and they are about to boil over. All the women are neighbors, and their husbands work together. They've been friends for years. But that will change when dark secrets are revealed. Somebody is going to die! For more information, call Scrapbook Factory 618-628-8877 or email us.
